Doxycycline

Generic Doxycycline (semisynthetic tetracycline) can effectively treat various bacteria-induced infections including chlamydia, acne, gum disease, gonorrhea and urinary tract infections. Alternative uses of Generic Doxycycline include treatment of blemishes, lesions, etc.

Doxycycline should be taken in strict compliance with your doctor's instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not change dosage or the prescribed period of use without prior medical consult.

The medication should be taken with a full glass of water. Ensure proper hydration while taking the medication. The appropriate dosage should be defined by your doctor and will depend on your age and health condition.

Do not take Doxycycline if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, as it may cause harm to your unborn baby. Doxycycline is known to reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control pills. Thus it is recommended to consider a non-hormonal birth control method for the period of taking the medication.

Do not take Doxycycline if you are allergic to it or other tetracycline antibiotics. Inform your doctor prior to starting the course of Doxycycline if you have any of the following conditions: asthma, sulfite allergy, liver or kidney disease.

Taking Doxycycline in children under 8 may lead to permanent teeth discoloration.

Do not use this medication if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Taking Doxycycline while pregnant could harm unborn babies and/or cause permanent discoloration of their teeth later in life.

Doxycycline might lessen the effectiveness of birth control pills. If you are a woman and on birth control pills, speak to your doctor before taking Doxycycline and consider using non-hormonal birth control means such as condoms, spermicide, etc. to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

You should not take Doxycycline if you have allergies to this medication or other tetracycline antibiotics (e.g. Declomycin, Dynacin, Minocin, Solodyn, Vectrin, etc.), or others. To be absolutely sure it is safe for you to take Doxycycline, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

• Asthma or sulfite allergy
• Liver disease
• Kidney disease

Children under 8 years old should not be taking Doxycycline as they may develop permanent discoloration of teeth as a result.

Avoid using the medication if you are allergic to it or any other tetracycline antibiotics.

Contact your doctor in case of a missed dose.

Doxycycline should be stored in a sealed package at 77°F (25°C), away from heat and moisture, and out of reach of children and pets.
