Colchicine

Colchicine is used to treat and prevent gout flares. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Colchicine is a beta-tubulin interactor. Exactly how Colchicine works is not known. However, it may affect certain proteins in the body, which may relieve gout symptoms.

Use Colchicine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take Colchicine by mouth with or without food. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are using Colchicine. Continue to use Colchicine even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Colchicine.

The most common Colchicine side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and weakness. If you experience any severe side effects including easily bleeding or bruising, fever, jaundice, muscle pain, numbness, sore throat, or symptoms of a serious allergic reactions (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Do NOT take Colchicine oral if you are allergic to Colchicine or any of the ingredients in Colchicine medication. Before taking Colchicine gout, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: blood disorder, heart disease, kidney or liver problems, and stomach ulcer. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions or over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Colchicine drug, especially of: antibiotics, antifungals, cholesterol medications, grapefruit juice, HIV medications, and etc. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Colchicine is inhibited by acidifying agents. The action of colchicine is potentiated by alkalinizing agents. Colchicine may increase sensitivity to the CNS depressants. Response to sympathomimetic agents' may be enhanced by colchicine.

If you miss a dose of Colchicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Colchicine should be stored between 20 and 25 C (68-77 F).
