Mestinon (Generic)

Generic Mestinon (Pyridostigmine) is a cholinesterase inhibitor that is used to treat myasthenia gravis and symptoms associated with this illness. Generic Mestinon works by stopping acetylcholine from breaking down, resulting in a positive buildup of the chemical. Acetylcholine is accumulated in order to stop this chemical from sending nerve impulses to the muscles. Generic Mestinon is also used to help military personnel with exposure to nerve gas.

Take Generic Mestinon at the same time with every treatment. Swallow pill whole. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet. Those with weak stomachs are advices to take Generic Mestinon with food or milk.

Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.

seizures, severe muscle weakness, muscle twitching, vision impairments, slurred speech, confusion, disorientation, anxiety, panic attacks, and cough with mucus.

Stop taking this medication and call your doctor symptoms of myasthenia gravis worsen or do not improve.

Less serious side effects associated with this medication include:
cold sweats, watery eyes, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, abnormally frequent urination, pale skin, rash, itchy skin, or a warm tingly feeling.

Before taking this medication, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:

clidinium, clozapine, methscopolamine, scopolamine, belladonna, atropine, benztropine, dimenhydrinate, mepenzolate or glycopyrrolate.

The following medications may also affect treatment with Generic Mestinon, contact your doctor before combining the two:
bronchodilators including: pratropium or tiotropium, any cold medicine, allergy medicine, or sleeping pills that contain an antihistamine; irritable bowel medications, bladder or urinary medications, medicine to treat Alzheimer's dementia, heart rhythm medication, or any steroids.

Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication.

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Keep Generic Mestinon in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
